Visiting the Practice -
The First Visit (1 hour)

For those patients who have not visited an Osteopathic Clinic before and those who have, but are “New “ to Wallington Osteopaths may we outline the format of your first visit to our clinic.

After you have presented to our clinic you will be welcomed by our receptionist who will ask you some basic details of who you are and where you live etc.

Then you will be introduced to your osteopathic practitioner and invited through to a treatment room. The Osteopath will then take a detailed case history to establish not only your presenting complaint, but also the predisposition of this injury. Some background health details will be asked.

Patients will be asked to undress to their underwear to allow the osteopath to make an examination of the postural balance throughout the body. The patient will be asked to make some gentle movements to establish the comfortable ranges of spinal or distal extremity movements.

The patient is then invited to sit or lie on the examination couch (or plinth) and a passive examination will be performed to assess the range of movement available within the dysfunctional part of the body without the patient instigating the movement.

Please note that at all times, should there be any tenderness or discomfort at any part of the examination the patient is asked to inform the practitioner at the time.

Osteopathy should not adhere to the “no pain-no gain” philosophy!

Any special tests (non invasive) will be performed and explained. For example tendon reflexes and power testing.

Then the practitioner will then stop, and explain the diagnosis and treatment plan. Then the patient is treated, as appropriate.

Please note; Chaperones are always welcome But are COMPULSORY for patients under 16 years of age.

Visiting the Practice -
As a Returning Patient (30 minutes)

No matter whether you return after one week, three weeks, two years or much longer, your visit to the Wallington Osteopathic Practice will be as a “current” patient and as such you will be welcomed with whatever condition you present with and treated accordingly.

In other words you will only ever be a “New Patient” once!

If there is a need to re-evaluate your condition, your consultation time will be extended (at no additional charge) to 60 minutes.

Otherwise repeat treatments are based on 30 minute bookings and appropriate treatments within this time.
